The Current

The Current began broadcasting in 2005 as a non-commercial, member-supported radio station based in Minneapolis / St. Paul. Donewaiting.com was started in February 2003 by Robert Duffy in Columbus, OH after he lost a bet. 2008 marks the fifth year the blog is covering the SXSW Music Festival while living 1,240 miles away from Austin, TX.

KVRX

KVRX 91.7 FM is the student radio station for the University of Texas at Austin, and Austin's only student-run station. KVRX's motto is "None of the Hits, All of the Time"; we strive to play music you won't hear anywhere else, which includes independent and local music from a variety of genres. KVRX also features community, news and sports programming with a student perspective.

Gorilla vs. Bear

Named Filter Magazine's Music Blog of the Year, Texas-based Gorilla vs. Bear has been a SXSW mainstay for the last three years. As the biggest blog in the great state of TX and host of their own show on SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Gorilla vs. Bear’s goal is simply to bring you the raddest new music in the world on a daily basis. Gorilla vs. Bear is nominated for two PLUG Independent Music Awards in 2008, and is regularly featured in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Q Magazine, and many other esteemed international publications. Despite the violent name, Gorilla vs. Bear actually loves all animals, and their favorite color is woodgrain.

Venus Zine

Venus Zine is the only magazine and Web site that focuses on women in music, film, fashion, and DIY culture. Started as a fanzine in the mid-'90s, Venus Zine has grown into an internationally circulated publication. Known for inviting readers to steer the bulk of the content, some of Venus Zine's popular columns include "Record Shopping With [enter band name here]," the Penus section, "Crafting a Business with Jenny Hart," and Call & Response, in which Venus Zine readers interview their favorite musicians. In addition to interviews with Kid Sister, Juliette Lewis, the Cool Kids, and Kate Nash, the spring 2008 issue of Venus Zine includes a special section about the "Best Female Guitarists of All Time."

Ice Cream Man

Ice Cream Man's mission is to give away free ice cream. So far he and his crew have gifted over 125,000 free treats! Keep your eyes peeled in 2008 for the Bessita Yaris ice cream “truck”. They’ll be kicking things off in Austin, then traveling the country to give away ice cream at the Free Yr Radio shows that will be raising money and awareness for local independent radio stations.
